A Conductor's Fury
The Tale:
Playing trombone in a recent concert of jazzy music, we had been instructed to stand up at a particularly jazzy trombone solo moment. Being the first player (second is such an easy seat), I inadvertedly knocked the head of the flugel horn player, Louise. She's a frail girlie; I hardly need tell you that the consequent chain of events was disastrous to say the least! Louise lost her already unsteady balance, fell onto the conductor's plynth and grabbed his muscle-bound thigh. The conductor, who places great emphasis upon his own strength, both as a player and a man, did his best to remain standing, but did wobble a bit!! He was livid! And poor louise blamed the second trombonist! He already has to cope with his mere second rate position - and now incurs the wrath of a tiny, small girl ! What a disaster!
