Entry qualifications.
The Tale:
My wife is a very well qualified music teacher. A friend, who is the mother of a pupil at Hawkes Farm school E. Sussex, (probably the best Junior school in Sussex) asked her if she would test her daughter for her Brownie music badge. This child (aged 11)has her grade 4 cello and will soon have grade 5! My wife swallowed hard and agreed. I imagined a scenario. Sir Simon Rattle is auditioning cellists for the Berlin Philharmonic. A person carrying a cello appears. Sir Simon asks, "What are your qualifications?" "Grade 5 cello." is the reply. "That's all very well, but do you have your Brownie music badge!"
