Hearing Aid Doesn't Aid
The Tale:
I was at a performance of Virgil Thomson's "Four Saints in Three Acts". It was a fine performance except that someone's hearing aid kept making an annoying squeal throughout the first half of the concert. I spoke with the manager at intermission and he, reluctantly, spoke to the audience requesting that such devices be managed appropriatley so as not to annoy other listeners. To no avail. The squeal continued throughout most of the second half as well.
