The Tale:

At our first marching competition of the year, our drum major missed a cue to our soprano saxophonist, who then immediately messed up. Because the rest of us were horribly confused, as we count by the sax player, the whole first movement got off. The pit finished before the rest of the band did, and to say we had more musical tears was an understatement. The rest of the show went horribly, with people tripping, playing at the wrong times, etc. When we marched off the field, we knew we had gotten last. But no, we ended up getting first, best drum major, best color guard, and best music! Imagine how shocked we were! By the way, we went on to win every contest we attended and won the USSBA Championships from the last seed.
