The fire alarm was Despised...

The Tale:

This is written in sympathy of my univeristy singing colleague, Genevive Lob, who was halfway through "He Was Despised" from Handel's Messiah, when the college fire alarm went off! The conductor drew her hand across her throat as if to say.. (work that out for yourselves)... but poor Genevive and the orchestra carried on for a few seconds, until they also worked out what was going on.

The whole chorus, orchestra and audience had to be shepherded outside into the freezing cold for 20 minutes, afetr which Genevive, in a creditable act of bravery, began the aria all over again.
