Thoughts:

To address the topic of "Postman is a Neanerthal" from above, I think that the author is forgetting some essential points. I don't think that people who can't consciously fight the "information overload" are idiots. It is easy to say that you know where the off button is and when to use it. Of course you think you do, maybe some things on TV or on the radio don't interest you, so you selectively chose to ignore them. I think that this is where the problem lies, we don't really know what we are interested in because of the ungodly amounts of stuff out there and as a result, we tune into all the TV and the like we can, hoping that something will spark our interest. Why do we chose to channel surf or flip through radio stations until a good song comes on? The effect is subtle, and to the author of that comment, do not think that you are some superhuman who can filter out the essentials and truths from the media...
