I do not beleive that Postman was trying to imply that technology is taking God's place or becoming God. He meant that the way people veiw technology at the present time is strikingly similar to the way people veiwed God centuries ago. You are very lucky to have such a strong faith in your religon and to you this does not seem possible, but remeber there are an increasing number of people who do not believe in God. When you have a problem you look to God for guidance, but many people do not. In a world with so many problems often people do not know where to turn, so science and technology have won a lot of faith and trust. Our culture as a whole does not look to God anymore for its answers we often look to scientific studies instead. Postman is not saying that God is being replaced by technology, but that our faith in God is being replaced by our faith in technology. It our mindset. We AS A CULTURE seem to be revering technology more and more and more.
