Re-segregation by computer isolation of the U.S.
Thoughts:
I can see this sequence of an American child growing up: 1. Never meeting any people different from his/herself because he/she went to school at home by computer from K-8 through graduate school; 2. Never meeting anyone different or learning that one owes civility to people because he/she went right to work telecommuting. One day he/she meets some poor minority person by accident on the street. He/she thinks "My God! These people talk funny! What's wrong with them? And they dress weird! Buncha freaks!" I don't see any obstacles to this model becoming the reality for middle class suburbanites in a decade or less.
