Technology and God

Technology and God

This seems to me to be one of the most interesting threads in the responses here.
The issue is not necessarily that God is being replaced by technology, but that He ceases to be relevant
for many because of it. It's intersting to note some of the parallels in Carl Sagan's book,
"The Demon Haunted World". As Postman suggests, people replace the mystery and awe of social and moral institutions
(religions) with that of technology; Sagan suggests that as we do this, we become susceptible, gullible even,
to both "junk" religions/myths and "junk" science, a topic which Postman addresses as well. The knee-jerk
reactions of some folks posting here on this subject exemplifies, I think, the sort of unthinking, unquestioning
attitudes which Postman hopes to head off in regards to Technology as the new "religion".
