Information about R. A. Salvatore

Bob Salvatore's love affair with fantasy, and with literature in general, began early. During his sophomore year of college, he was given a copy of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings as a Christmas gift. He promptly changed his major from computer s cience to journalism and was awarded a bachelor of science degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg (Mass.) State College in 1981. He has since earned a bachelor of arts degree in English.

Born in Massachusetts in 1959, Bob lives there still with is wife, Diane, their three children, and their pets. He finds time between chapters of his latest novel to play baseball and football. Rob also enjoys playing and coaching hockey and is an avid we ight-lifter.

Bob's first two FORGOTTEN REALMS novel series, The Icewind Dale Trilogy and The Dark Elf Trilogy (including the New York Times best sellers The Halfling's Gem and Sojourn), have sold more than one million copies worldwide.

He feels that Sojourn(his eighth published novel), along with projects for New American Library, puts the finishing touches on the first stage of his writing career.
